"We've always just made music that made us happy..."
PT KONTAK PERKASA FUTURES - All Time Low have commented on the idea that they've sold out with their new album 'Last Young Renegade'.
In a podcast for Billboard, guitarist Jack Barakat said, "I think we sold out a really long time ago, when we released 'Nothing Personal' people had thought we'd sold out, it's so weird how that works."
Vocalist Alex Gaskarth added that he, "can't help but feel the whole selling out thing is kind of a dumb conversation in my opinion, I don't really get it.
"We've always just made music that made us happy, whether it was more punk, more rock, more pop, whatever it was. We've always just done what we liked at the time. It comes up with every record that we put out, whether it's 'Don't Panic', which was way back returned-to-form rock for us, or whether it's this record which is a little more out there and trying some different things, there's always someone that says, 'oh they sold out'."
The band also commented on the move from 'Future Hearts' to 'Last Young Renegade' with Alex saying, "I think we learned a lot from that record, just given that there was still growth happening."
"It was definitely a boost to our confidence I think as a band, knowing that we could keep going with it and as long as we keep kind of reinventing our selves a little bit, more and more people are jumping on for the ride and wanted to be a part of it.
"I think what it really signified for us was that, we'd tried a few new things on that record, it felt like a growth from the record that came before it, but it sort of made it apparent to us that our fans were ready for something different and so I think that was the biggest realisation with this new album, was that we could go and make something pretty left of center for us and experiment, and as long as we felt that it still had the core feels of an All Time Low record, that it would still translate.
"I think that's kinda what we went for, we definitely tried a lot of new things on this record, but when I break it down it still feels like an All Time Low record to me."
All Time Low's new album is out now via Fueled By Ramen and you can watch the band talk through their music video history below.
